This is by far the best way to apply butter icing or frosting to a cake - or jam in the centre. If you haven’t used one before you’ll find that once you get used to it you’ll never want to go back to an ordinary knife.

Perfect too for creating concentric rings on a chocolate fudge cake for example - put the cake on a turntable, place the tip of the knife in the centre of the icing on the top and gently spin the cake, moving the knife slowly outwards making the spiral. Continue down the sides as needed.
